Windows 7 Update error-An error occurred while checking for new updates-Code 80073712 - Windows 7 Errors and Crashes

After completing successful windows update for several times, it suddenly gives an error message “An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer update encountered an un known error-Error Code 80073712.

Symptoms—when trying to update windows, first it will say “install new update software”



Then after checking windows update for long times it says “unknown error-Error... Code 80073712…….”

This is occurred due to windows update component is corrupted or system disk partition error.

Solutions which you can follow are below,

(1) Go to All Programs---->Accessories ---->Command Prompt and run as Administrator. Type SFC/SCANNOW . This will take some time to complete. Then type chkdsk /R /F on system partition.. After completion check for updates once again. Most of the time these steps will solve the problem … If not go to 2 step.

(2) Open Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting and click on fix problems with windows updates

(3)Most of the time upon following above two steps, your problem will be solved... Else you can try this Hotfix - System Update Readiness Tool ... Select your Windows version from there and install it..
