In windows 7 it is pretty easy since there was a GUI tool to create an Adhoc network...In windows 8 they have removed this GUI option. If you need to create an adhoc network you have to use command prompt utility netsh... Little bit tedious in comparison with Windows 7...

This is how it is done...

Open an elevated command prompt.(Run as admin)

Then type netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=MyAdHocNet key=@@23SD12sd and hit enter..

Here ssid is the wireless network name you wish to create and key is the password..

Then you need to start the network by typing below command

    netsh wlan start hostednetwork

Same setting must be applied to the next pc you wish to connect in wireless means....

After creating the network successfully you can view it like this...

When i try to start my network it gives an error

When I try to run "netsh wlan start hostednetwork" it gives me an error saying the below message..

The hosted network couldn't be started.
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
